About Archery
Below is a very brief outline of the common types of bow, and archery disciplines
There
is a huge wealth of information on every aspect of archery on the internet, however
none of it can substitute talking to our members who are always happy to pass on
their experience and advice
Longbow
Following its retirement as a weapon of war, the longbow was developed into the recreational sport of archery in Victorian times. Shooting a longbow is a skilled and extremely satisfying form of archery, free from modern gadgets!
We have many longbow archers in our club, some of whom make their own bows
Olympic Recurve
The Olympic or Recurve bow is the most popular choice for modern archers. New materials and accessories all help to produce an efficient and consistent shot.
Most of our members are recurve archers, many shooting at a high level of competition
Compound
Developed for hunting, the Compound bow is a very powerful and accurate bow, utilising modern materials and technology.
We have a few compound archers in our club who also achieve very highly in competition
Target Archery
The most popular form of archery, with a wide range of rounds shooting a specific
number of arrows at set
distances from 10 -
Clout Archery
Shooting at a very long distance (up to 180yds), scoring
according to how close you
get
to the flag
There are other forms of archery, such as Field and Flight, however we do not have
the facilities at our club to shoot these
